hmm...not bad. the top one looks cool. i dont think the color combination is there yet, especially for the logo. i think you should stay away from the blues given on the CMYK palette. the blues there are too dark and almost sharpie like. i like the colored smoke thing, but im wondering if that was done with paint brush or painter. if its just a photo, i wouldnt use it because, its more like photoshop than painting. it would make more sense to paint it so that it gives the illusion of a real photo but up close you can tell its not.
I would choose #1 because it is a better fit for a software company, #2 might be a better fit for a movie or book type of packaging, no offense it could actually be on a type of packaging if you wanted to, but #1 is the one I would go with.
The concept for #2, brush stroke masking a painting, is stronger than your first sketch. The the brightness of the painting would need to be bumped up before printing. Also make sure to use your own painting rather than a screenshot from Blizzard Entertainment.
I like #1 except I would like to see the paint color and the the word painter flip flop in color. The image, I think is pretty cool...its paint or ink in water right? I think its actually a pretty cool concept, your slogan could be" we take care of the mess for you" or "for get the mess"...something about a mess or not having to clean it up. The image reminds of when I was a kid and I would paint. I always need a cup of water to clean my brush off. So it reminds me of the first dip in the water. So I would play with that idea...unless you have something in mind already. Good job. Good luck. Kim Jensen
I don't personally know the Painter software, but I don't know about the typeface you used (Unless that is their signature typeface for the their logo?) The colors you chose do like a little dark. You have a great idea going, just a few tweaks and you could really create something nice.
You have some really cool effects going on but I just don't see the connection to what the software does. Can you actually create those effects with that software? Also, try playing around with different typefaces and see how that looks.
I like number 1 I think that could look really cool. I don't know the program, but I do like it. I would change the colors a little bit as mentioned but overall it looks neat.
The first one works better than the second one because you can tell what it is; however, the colors clash and you can't see what edition it is. The Corel logo is too small. You need more contrast with your image and the background.
the use of primary colors for number one is not a bad idea maybe differernt tins or shades, I like the yellow backgroung and red ink of whatever that is, the typeface is not there yet and maybe the color for it could be something else... maybe try to lower the opasity on the yellow or just make it white for a sharper contrast with the red... The stroke is nice too, but is a little to heavy...
type feels stuck in the 90's. the whole layout does. its the color in #1 and its the mask thing in #2. take a look at neville brody, who is a great designer, but yes the stuff he was doing was fantastic 10 years ago. an issue with these programs is to be progressive - cutting edge. looking forward. hip - zeitgeist. look around and see whats working out there, take a little bit here and there and create something new.
I'm not really liking the colors for the first one, but I like the idea. The colors just aren't very attractive to me. The second one is pretty cool though, maybe make it more obvious it's a brush stroke?
i love the black and purple. it has kind of a retro feel but the color is bright and the design composition is strong. the 1st one is nice also but not as strong
something about it is off to me. I'm seriously not sure which part of it bugs me. Maybe its the type, or the smoke? Maybe the colors are too saturated? I dont know the program that well so I'm not sure if the concept is working or not. But from a consumers point of view, it looks off.

The top one is a little confusing for me. I prefer the bottom one, but then maybe add a couple of images that are easier to distinguish.
